The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry was formed to promote accessibility to the highest quality treatment for all who need it, promote excellence in clinical practice in addiction psychiatry, educate the public about addictive illness and provide continuing education for addiction professionals. The Academy disseminates new information in the field of addiction psychiatry and encourages research on the etiology, prevention, identification, and treatment of the addictions. Through their Online Web Store, the Academy provides easy access to numerous books and review courses materials.

The American Society of Addiction Medicine is a medical specialty society dedicated to educating physicians and improving the treatment of individuals with substance-related disorders. They provide numerous publications for physicians regarding substance abuse treatment.

The Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Prevention Global Network, sponsored by Danya International, is a collection of substance-related treatment and prevention Websites organized by treatment, prevention, assessment, research, and online training.

The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information is the clearinghouse for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. It has numerous treatment and assessment publications for physicians and patients.

The Treatment Improvement Exchange is a resource sponsored by the Division of State and Community Assistance of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to provide information exchange between Federal staff and State and local alcohol and substance abuse agencies. It provides links to a wealth of documents developed by the center, other Federal Government agencies, and non-government agencies.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has a wealth of written and audiovisual materials—including patient handouts—on the substances of abuse, substance abuse treatment, treatment research, and related issues, such as the substance-related medical problems.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has numerous publications, including brochures and other materials for patients and family members, various publications for physicians, and many publications on alcoholism research and treatment.
