Management of Hepatitis C: 2002. The National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference Statement defines the standard of care for the treatment of hepatitis C. This document reviews the natural history of hepatitis C, the most appropriate approach to diagnose and monitor patients, the most effective therapy, which patients should be treated, prevention recommendations, and areas for future research.

Provides recommendations for preventing transmission of HCV; identifying, counseling, and testing persons at risk for HCV infection; and providing appropriate medical evaluation and management of HCV-infected individuals.

National Hepatitis C Prevention Strategy:  A Comprehensive Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Hepatitis C Virus Infection and its Consequences.
Provides statistics on hepatitis C infection in the United States, as well as information on risk factors for infection, consequences of HCV infection, treatment for hepatitis C, coinfection, prevention and control, and surveillance and research. It also discusses the implementation of the National Hepatitis C Prevention Strategy.

It provides general information on the nature of hepatitis C infection, risks of hepatitis C transmission, how to clean used injection equipment, diagnostic tests, and treatment.
